Haunted Heart

from Film Noir by Chris Forbes

about

This album was kind of a miracle I think. We had scheduled the session for Friday March 13th...some would say an inauspicious day but I've always had particularly good luck on Friday the 13th. As the day arrived things were looking weirder and weirder in New York. That week, every day something more seemed to close or there was another warning. The morning of the session I was to travel up to the Harlem Port Authority to meet Tom, who would drive me out to the studio, housed in the college that our producer Jack De Salvo taught at. No one was on the train in rush hour on a Friday morning. I changed trains at 59th Street Station at 9:30 am and there were literally ten people in the station.
We got to the session and the music just flowed. I usually insist on two takes per track cause I believe options are good but most of the album consists of the first takes. We finished up recording around five and went out to eat in Jersey. There were of course empty tables at the place at six on a Friday in the burbs....unheard of. About half way through dinner Jack got a call and the college had shut down. We made this album truly in the nick of time!
This is our take on classic film music...from the Mummy to tunes of the 40s to masters like Bernard Herrmann and Dmitri Tiomkin, we explore a genre I’ve loved since I was a little kid. – Chris Forbes
